“Food Pack with Love” Charity Scheme

In Hong Kong, aging population is on a conspicuous upward trend. As a result of the surge of Consumer Price Index (CPI) (i.e. 5.7% in August 2011 over the same month last year and 11.7% in year-on-year increase in price of food ¹), the financial burden of Hongkong people has increased dramatically, especially for those financially poor elderly.

In view of this instant need, HOHCS launched a “Food Pack with Love” Charity Scheme (「愛心傳餸慈善計劃」) on October 2011 to provide free nutritional raw food for elderly persons in need. It is hoped that through this Scheme, the needy elderly in question would have a chance to cook with their own preferences and enjoy warm meals at home, and that their heavy financial burden could be relieved.

Who We Serve

Elderly persons who live in Tseung Kwan O, Kwun Tong, Wong Tai Sin and Sai Kung, and who meet the following criteria:

• Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients; or
• Non-CSSA cases:
  • with monthly household income below HK$3,500 for singleton elderly aged 60 or above; or
  • with monthly household income below HK$7,000 for elderly couple aged 60 or above.

What We Serve

• Distribute free nutritional raw food thrice a week
• Subsidise basic grocery items and seasonal food regularly
  • Provide basic grocery items monthly, such as cooking oil, soy sauce or rice stick, etc;
  • Provide extra seasonal food and organise special festive events, so that the elderly could enjoy the festive atmosphere and have a sense of participation.
• Home visits
  • Home visits for elderly persons are provided regularly or as needed so that the elderly could feel loved and cared for.
